Bastian Schweinsteiger charged with violent conduct
Bastian Schweinsteiger could face a three-match ban after being involved in an altercation with West Ham defender Winston Reid during Manchester United’s goalless draw on Saturday at Old Trafford.
Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger has been charged with violent conduct by the Football Association following his clash with West Ham United’s Winston Reid at the weekend.
Referee Mark Clattenburg did not see the incident, which occurred just before halftime, nor did his assistants, meaning retrospective action can be taken, according to the Daily Mirror.
The stalemate with Slaven Bilic’s Hammers sees the Red Devils leapfrogged by Arsenal and Leicester, who now find themselves top of the table as the midway point of the campaign edges closer. I’m not sure he’d be a fan of that.
Should action be taken against Schweinsteiger, a three-man panel of former referees will examine the video evidence to determine if the ex-Bayern Munich star deserved a red card, and if they unanimously agree that it did he will serve a ban likely to be for three matches.
“We are disappointed but these things happen”. He just did not see it.
‘I saw it on the replays at half-time. It was a red.
And Reid told Sky Sports: “It was a red card”. I understand the decision but it was a crucial moment. “I can not blame the referee”.
“We didn’t only defend, on the contrary, we created enough chances against them and it was a very good day for us. No matter how many referees you have, sometimes they can’t see”, Bilic said in the aftermath of the game.
