Busy Royals near deal with World Series cog, eyeing Gordon
As Kansas City’s closer, Soria saved 160 games and made the American League All-Star team in 2008 and 2010.
CBS’ Jon Heyman and The Kansas City Star’s Andy McCullough report that Young and the Royals have agreed to a two-year, $11.5 million deal.
The Royals also reportedly re-signed Chris Young to a two-year deal, according to a number of outlets.
Free-agent pitcher Chris Young, who helped the Kansas City Royals to a World Series championship, is looking for another deal that will keep him in the majors for a 12th season. The Royals let him leave after he underwent Tommy John surgery and missed the entire 2012 season. He’s been one of the best relievers in the Major League Baseball since 2014 in stints with the Rangers, Detroit Tigers and Pittsburgh Pirates.
Young responded by making 18 starts and finished with an excellent 11-6 record and 3.06 ERA in 123.1 innings pitched.
Do you think signing Joakim Soria was a good idea? Soria will now join Kelvin Herrara as a primary setup man for closer Wade Davis. He won Game 1 of the World Series against the Mets with three innings of shutout relief.
In a pair of moves, general manager Dayton Moore has solidified both his rotation depth and bullpen.
