Jets’ Marshall defends wife’s honor against Giants’ Jenkins
If Coughlin chose to kick the field goal, it would have been a two possession game and the Jets would’ve had to go for a touchdown on fourth down instead of kicking a field goal. But quarterback Eli Manning handled that situation – and the pressure of an oncoming Jets rush – as poorly as he could.
Bullock cut the deficit to seven on the next series and Fitzpatrick hit Marshall for a 9-yard touchdown with 27 seconds remaining to tie it, capping a 71-yard drive. “We needed it. We were down, and we needed it. You just try to build on the last game to the next one”. Jason Pierre-Paul had a fumble recovery to set up one of two field goals by Brown, whose miss was his first since December 21.
All it did was give the Jets momentum they’d not had all afternoon.
Ben McAdoo – When the Giants hired him two years ago it was assumed he might be the successor to Coughlin. Now?
The loss marked the fifth time the Giants have blown a fourth-quarter lead this season.
Marshall said of Fitzpatrick, “The thing that I love, and I think we all appreciate, is doing it together”.
On one hand, he is barely more quotable than Bill Belichick, an anti-Rex Ryan who often gives short, tiresome answers. I don’t think Coughlin or McAdoo or Manning trusts their defense to do anything major late in a game that matters. Well be debunked that myth by putting the Jets on his back and winning the game with his arm to the tune of a whopping 50 pass attempts. I argued he shouldn’t have put it on one play.
“I believe in trash talk and some guys get up for that, but some things are off limits”, Marshall said. He was wrong then, and he was wrong Sunday. The Jets then drove down field and kicked a field to pull within a touchdown. Make it a 13-point game against a team that had one touchdown against your team up until that point.
Wins have been there for the taking, and the Giants have failed to take them.
Situational coaching got the best of a great coach once again. On offense, they have trouble running the ball (they’re 29 in the National Football League with just 88.1 yards a game).
But hey, if Jenkins’ apology was good enough for Marshall, it’s good enough for me.
Bowles said of the play, “Fitz did a great job”.
Wilson lit up the Minnesota Vikings in an easy 38-7 blowout for the Seahawks.
In the past 2 games, “Fitzmagic” has thrown 56 completions on 87 attempts (64% completion percentage), 667 yards, 6 touchdowns, and 0 interceptions. “It was a critical juncture of the game where I just saw that I could definitely pick up the first down, so that’s what I did”.
The point here is that entering an offseason in which for once the Jets will be the tranquil, settled franchise in town there is a warm glow of competence surrounding the decision-making team.
Lose like the Giants are losing – big leads wasted, collapses late all around, strengths wilted into weaknesses – and criticism mounts. He’s often left clean pockets for no reason while not allowing the routes to develop.
“That dude, he makes my job so easy”, Fitzpatrick said.
He’s been special the past 12 quarters.
Then add in the loss of his No. 2 receiver (Victor Cruz), two starting offensive linemen (Will Beatty, Geoff Schwartz), his middle linebacker (Jon Beason), his top two tight ends (Larry Donnell, Daniel Fells) and a starting defensive tackle (Johnathan Hankins).
“Somebody’s got to make a play in order to get out of that jam, and it doesn’t take a lot”.
Russell Wilson three three touchhdown passes, and ran for a fourth, as the Vikings fell back into a first-place tie with Green Bay for the NFC North lead.
Rob Carr/Getty Images While not free from blame for the Giants’ 5-7 record, Tom Coughlin (r.) has very little to work with. I can’t wait to truly dive into some Wilson tape this week for After Further Review to look at just how he’s grown as a passer.
