Romo knocked out vs Carolina with another collarbone injury
Romo went on injured reserve with a designation to return after the first injury, and the Cowboys couldn’t win without him. “That’s what I did today, and I have to live with that”.
With six seconds left in the third quarter, Romo was sacked by the Panthers’ Thomas Davis.
Romo had already missed seven games this season with a fractured clavicle suffered in Week 2.
“I had a nightmare last night and I was hoping when I woke up this morning it was just that”, Jones said. He’s a fighter. He’s obviously the leader of this team. “That took me to a whole other place”. To have that happen to him again [is] unfortunate.
The 35-year-old Romo had X-rays taken on the collarbone after the game but the results were inconclusive, according to reports.
The injury was eerily similar to the one in Week 2 against Philadelphia. Mickey Spagnola of DallasCowboys.com reported Friday that the fracture was over the calcified area on Romo’s collarbone that was previously broken.
Romo also didn’t require surgery the first time around, when he was placed on the injured reserve/designated to return list.
The Panthers are 11-0 after a 33-14 victory in their Thanksgiving debut, and the Cowboys could be facing the rest of the season without Romo in what has become a lost season for the defending NFC East champions.
On his radio show on 105.3 The Fan, Jones discussed how bringing Romo back this season, was worth it for the Cowboys as they tried to get back into the playoff race.
Before Romo’s injury, he did manage to get enough of a drive going to get another Bailey field goal with 7:47 left in the third quarter.
Stephen Jones said Thursday that Romo’s previous break was fully healed before he played against Miami.
Once a bone like that is broken the chances of re-breaking it increase. “I just started running”.
“I know Tony wanted it so bad, and sometimes you push”. Hopefully the guys rally around you. Although he did sign a seven-year, $119.5 million back in 2013, making him a Cowboy until 2020, it’s clear the veteran’s body will likely not allow him to play that long.
Romo was replaced by Matt Cassel, who threw a two-yard touchdown to Cole Beasley – adding a two-point conversion with a pass to Darren McFadden – late in the fourth quarter.
“Obviously it doesn’t feel good”, Romo said after Thursday’s game. He’s also undergone three back surgeries.
But the offseason will have to wait. The Cowboy’s next opponent will be the Redskins on December 7. Instead, a nightmare scenario played out. “Early on we weren’t able to finish in some of the earlier games”. But in this situation, you just never know.
