Cops foil run ahead of beef fest in OU

Putting an end to the ongoing controversy over the proposed beef festival and pork festival on the Osmania University campus, a city court on Monday issued a status quo order till December 21.
Recently, an advocate, the research and scholar of Osmania University S. Janardhan Goud, gave an injunction petition on this festival. The police, who already said that no festival would be permitted on the campus in the wake of the university denying permission, shifted the participants of the proposed run, in a van. Meanwhile, the OU Arts College had more number of police personnel than students on Monday as they stalled a 5-km rally in support of the festival, which is slated for December 10.
While Leftist student organisations have declared that they would hold a “beef festival” on December 10 in the campus, coinciding with the World Human Rights Day, another group of students announced plans to organise a “pork festival” in parallel on the same day, setting the stage for a confrontation. And that the present situation is worse than the earlier one and there may be serious law and order problems if it is allowed to be held.
Around 30 students of Democratic Cultural Forum, were taken into preventive custody, LT Chandrasekhar, additional DCP, said. Almost 50 students were arrested and sent to different police stations. However, no cases were registered against the students.
