Pune, Rajkot become interim IPL franchises to replace CSK, RR

Incidentally all the five bidders opted for more than one city from the nine available.

The other three bidders in fray were Harsh Goenka of RPG properties, Axis Clinical and Chettinad Cement, all of whom quoted higher bids than New Rising and Intex Mobiles. Chettinad quoted Rs. 27 crores for Pune and Chennai while RPG bid Rs. 17.88 crores for Pune and Rs. 20.88 crores for Rajkot.

The 10 cities that were initially shortlisted were Chennai, Ahmedabad, Ranchi, Rajkot, Dharamsala, Indore, Pune, Kanpur, Nagpur and Visakhapatnam.

The process of choosing two new teams has to be necessitated in the wake of a two-year suspension imposed by the Supreme Court-appointed Justice R.M. Lodha committee on two IPL franchises CSK and RR after their investigation into the 2013 IPL corruption scandal.
