Jaguar Land Rover announces record November sales figures

Land Rover has already confirmed multiple times that an all-new, high-tech Defender is in the pipeline, and will undergo a complete bottom-up overhaul for the first time in the brand’s history.

But new-age concerns such as crash tests and fuel economy will force Land Rover to hit the reset button on its Defender family.

Land Rover The Defender is credited as the first true SUV, starting all the way back in 1948 with the Series I Land Rover.

“Any replacement for an iconic vehicle is tough because the enthusiasts are very vocal”, explained Joe Eberhardt, the CEO of Jaguar-Land Rover’s North American division in an interview with Automotive News. “They have an opinion on how to do it, but it’s a huge opportunity at the same time”.

Land Rover, with its best selling Range Rover Sport and Discovery, saw sales up 26 per cent, while Jaguar deliveries accelerated by 33 per cent worldwide.

This special commemorative vehicle – which is expected to fetch a record price for a new Defender – will be sold to raise money for Land Rover’s humanitarian and conservation partners – the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and the Born Free Foundation.
