The Winter Session of the Assembly began on a stormy note today, with Speaker Pranab Gogoi suspending all the BJP members present in the House after they created a ruckus demanding a discussion on the States law-and-order situation during the Question Hour.

Guwahati, Dec. 8: A day after Assam Assembly Speaker Pranab Gogoi suspended six MLAs from the BJP and nine from the Congress, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Tuesday said that the charges against him were politically motivated.

The BJP MLA’s had demanded to the speaker to stop the question hour and discuss about the present law & order situation in the state.

The BJP MLAs then rushed to the Well of the House and pressed the Speaker with their demand.

Justifying his stand, the Speaker told The Telegraph that he wanted to nip the problem in the bud or, going by the way the BJP MLAs were acting, they would have continued to disrupt proceedings. Hindi-speaking people are being tortured and jihadi activities are on the rise.

Jayanta Malla Boruah, for MLA of Congress Jayanta Malla Boruah, one of the expelled BJP MLAs while slamming Congress for such action said, “The Congress party has been demeaning the glory of the Assam Assembly by such actions”. “We can’t allow this to happen”, the Lok Sabha MP said here.

Immediately, all Congress MLAs, including the ministers, countered the opposition demand by shouting back.

With no signs of cooling of frayed tempers, the Speaker called the Marshals, who took the BJP MLAs out of the House, and announced his decision to suspend the members for the Winter Session. He also questioned the moral integrity of the nine Congress MLAs who have not yet resigned. They were joined by the seven Congress rebels.Deka said, “Law and order is deteriorating by the day”. “Some of our MLAs walked out with BJP members. I request you to take action against them accordingly”, Mr Hussain told the Speaker.

Refuting the allegation Gogoi on Monday said that it is really unfortunate that Himanta Biswa Sarma choose to hurl wild allegation against me that I have influenced the Speaker.
