Universal Child Care Benefit
All families with children under 18 will now get some extra cash each month, with today’s first payment including retroactive amounts back to January.
Almost 3 billion in cash is being sent out today to parents of children under 17.
The government is rolling out its new universal child care benefit to families that have signed up to receive it.
Many Canadians are about receive the largest, one-time benefit payment in federal history. For future months, UCCB will provide $160 a month for each child five and under, plus $60 per month for children between the ages of six through 17 who are still in their parents care.

Speaking in Fredericton, Liberal leader Justin Trudeau countered that his plan for a child care benefit includes a larger, tax-free monthly payment targeted at families who need it most.
