Disgruntled Murray meets with Eagles’ owner Lurie

What will be worth monitoring for the rest of the season certainly is what exactly Murray’s role will be and how it will evolve through the final four games, especially after Ryan Mathews returned to practice for the first time on Tuesday.

For the first time all season, Darren Sproles led the Eagles in carries Sunday during a 35-28 victory over the Patriots.

Sproles had the most carries (15) for 66 yards, an average of 4.4 yards per attempt. He’s also played in all 16 games just once in the last 4 seasons. Murray, however, played on just 14 offensive plays, gaining 24 yards on eight carries. Murray just isn’t a fit for Kelly’s offense, and it’s been evident for months. Against the Patriots however, Chip Kelly the coach finally pulled through and made one crucial decision that turned the tide of what was set to be the teams toughest game so far.

Murray has been vocal this year against head coach Chip Kelly because he is angry that in an offense based around the run that he is not getting more touches. On Monday, Kelly reaffirmed his commitment to remaining in Philadelphia. So we’re not trying to win a rushing championship or a passing championship or a receiving championship… And we’re going to do whatever it is. “We’re very, very confident when [Murray] is in the game running the football. But it’s a good problem to have”. But if anything, Kelly has greatly diminished his role, and put him in no position to succeed. But I’ve said this all along, though, you’ve got to look at involvement and production over the course of the season. We thought he was a really good player.

Shurmur: “We’ve seen him on the practice field, he’s trained well, and he’s got juice in there where he’ll hit it and he can run really fast”.

“I work my tail off every day in practice and in the offseason”, said Barner, whose nine carries for 39 yards were career highs. Production-wise, he was about as nonexistent as you can get. He’s actually had more snaps than any of the other guys combined.

The move coincides with the Eagles’ signing and promotion of wide receiver Jonathan Krause to the active roster. “They can say whatever they want, but I’ve never discussed another college job since I came here”.

The reason Kelly gave to the media was that there was a big group of linebackers and they went with the hot hand. “I think it helps when you have that youth aspect of it that’s really pushing”.
