Bears D Holds up Late; Packers Seek Answers in Passing Game

Running back Eddie Lacy ran for 105 yards on 17 carries and caught 4 balls for another 34 yards on the lone Packer TD.

With driving rain drenching the field, Cutler calmly led the Bears on a clock-eating drive in the fourth quarter that kept Rodgers on the bench with Chicago leading, 17-13.

The Chicago Bears pulled one of the biggest upsets in recent memory by defeating the Green Bay Packers 17-13 on the road in a Thanksgiving thriller. Unfortunately for the team as a whole, Green Bay only picked up one win in that span.

They did it by shutting out Rodgers and the Packers in the second half, by making Rodgers the seventh quarterback out of 11 this season to be held under 200 yards passing by the Bears defense. Adams was also the culprit of one of the biggest plays of the game.

“I think the healing process is great to really honor him for what he accomplished here and move forward together”, said Aaron Rodgers, who replaced Favre at quarterback.

Rodgers threw an interception late in the third quarter before the final drive to Tracy Porter and that helped set up the defense for a final stop.

There were several other missed opportunities.

“I’m going to have to make sure my preparation is as high as it’s ever been because we have to get on the same page”.

Not good, but the Packers will have a chance to right the ship Thursday night at Detroit. He has made plays on special teams regularly this year, and his ability to stretch the field needs to be emphasized on this Packers’ team who refuses to throw the deep ball anymore. But in the long run, when the initial sting wears off, this one won’t be remembered for any particular fumble or drop that took place on the field.

This home loss for the Packers marks their second straight home loss, to a second divisional opponent, bringing their reacord to 7-4.

At halftime, the Packers unveiled Favre’s name beneath the north end-zone scoreboard alongside the other five players whose numbers were retired.

Speaking at a charity function Thursday, Favre said that Aaron Rodgers is “almost too good”. Running back James Starks gained 18 yards on a screen and ran for 7 more to get the ball to the Green Bay 49 at the two-minute warning.

The two former standout Packers quarterbacks embraced. It was an ugly, slippery game that included multiple fumbles and a very rare Aaron Rodgers interception at Lambeau (not to mention a brief Rodgers injury scare that seemed to impact his play a bit directly afterward, though not enough to stop him from driving the Packers down the field and putting them in a position to nearly win). But with new coach John Fox and offensive coordinator Adam Gase, Cutler avoided throwing an interception. Cutler targeted him three times, and Mariani finished the game with three catches for 35 yards with a long of 21 yards. Lacy is their second best player behind Rodgers, and he’s been the most productive in the team’s past two games. “Those power runners, when they fight for extra yardage, sometimes the first thing that gets sloppy is the ball security”. Early in the second quarter, however, he failed to tuck away the slippery football on another breakaway run that covered 15 yards before safety Chris Prosinski knocked it out from behind Lacy.
