Reds agree to deal Chapman to Dodgers
At the beginning of the afternoon, the Dodgers thought they had acquired Chapman, while in reality, they very well may never get to see him put on a Dodgers uniform.
The Dodgers were in talks to acquire Reds closer Aroldis Chapman.
It was at that point, Chapman admitted, that he locked himself in his garage by himself, got a pistol out of the glovebox of his Range Rover, and fired eight shots-seven into the concrete wall, one through a window and into an open field.
A Davie Police Department report released Tuesday says there was “insufficient evidence” to charge Chapman in the October 30 incident because of conflicting stories, no cooperating witnesses and no physical injuries. Jay Reisinger, Chapman’s lawyer, denied the allegations in the Yahoo report. After that, Chapman’s girlfriend told police her brother came into the room and separated the pair. Chapman’s girlfriend exited the house and hid in bushes following the argument that stemmed from something she found on Chapman’s cellphone, according to the police report.
The closest thing to a sure transaction for the Dodgers on Monday was a three-year contract with free agent pitcher Hisashi Iwakuma, reportedly worth $45 million.
Grievances: Chicago Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant and Philadelphia Phillies third baseman Maikel Franco have filed grievances against their teams alleging they were kept in the minor leagues unnecessarily and had their service time manipulated to delay future free agency, multiple major league sources told Yahoo Sports.
The Dodgers, who were believed to still be gathering information on the alleged incident, declined to comment Monday night, but a person familiar with the team’s thinking said the deal could be in jeopardy. Reds general manager Walt Jocketty said Monday night that while the deal is not dead, it could take weeks to complete.
The Reds outwardly remained hopeful of moving Chapman, whom they have openly shopped this winter.
It is said that Cincinnati will receive two prospects in return for the 27-year-old.
Pairing Chapman with incumbent closer Kenley Jansen would give the Dodgers two of the best strikeout pitchers ever at the end of the game.
Over the course of the 2015 season, Chapman pitched to a 1.63 ERA alongside a record of 4-4, while allowing 13 runs on 43 hits, three of which were home runs over 66.1 innings thrown.
“I think that obviously everyone knows that is there’s a lot of interest in several players that we have”.
