Manziel back as starter for Browns after benching
Cleveland Browns head coach Mike Pettine would not officially announce who his starting quarterback would be for this Sunday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers when he conducted his Monday press conference despite the report from Chris Mortensen of ESPN saying it will be Johnny Manziel. In six games this season (three starts), Manziel has completed 76-of-128 passes (59.4 percent) for 933 yards, five touchdowns and two interceptions. Davis didn’t do anything to lose his job, but not enough to hang on to it either. In Manziel’s last game against the Steelers, he threw for 372 yards and a touchdown.
Two days later, Pettine gave Manziel the starting nod for what was supposed to be the rest of the season, then eventually took the reins of the offense away without another game being played because the immensely popular and polarizing player had violated the trust of the coaching staff. The Browns face the San Francisco 49ers this week.
Well, the 23-year-old is already having some fun after getting moved back to the No. 1 spot on Cleveland’s depth chart. The Browns lost to the Bengals 37-3. Pettine indicated Manziel would finish the season as the starter. He made more headlines with his antics outside of football last season and spent 10 weeks during the winter in a Pennsylvania rehab facility specializing in treatment for alcohol and substance abuse. “I’m sure it’s an added preparation for the incoming team”.
After a brief hiatus due to disciplinary reasons, Johnny Manziel has once again been named the starting quarterback for the Cleveland Browns (2-10).
