Toderian said Vancouverites should ask the Holborn Group, the company behind the Trump Tower in Vancouver, to remove his name from the project.
All 218 condos in the 63-storey tower have already been sold, but Trump’s company will manage the 147 hotel suites on the lower 15 floors. But Matlow maintains he’s seen enough from the floppy-haired real estate mogul-And his name has no place on a prominent building in “diverse and respectful” Toronto. “The sheer horrific comments this week have probably just been the breaking point for some people”.
“I commented that, given the comments Mr. Trump had said just yesterday about Muslims, it just reinforced my sort of feeling that we should start a commentary, a discourse, about removing Trump’s name from the second-tallest building in Vancouver”, said Toderian.
“A reporter said to me ‘Trump’s not amusing anymore, ‘ and my response was ‘he’s never been amusing.’ He’s been increasingly horrifying”, he said. They were always deeply concerning and they have gotten worse and worse.
Toderian said he has no plans to contact Holburn directly or take further steps to try and get the Trump named stripped from the iconic tower.
Trump came to Vancouver in 2013 to announce he was lending his brand to the project instead. “Beyond that I don’t know what the developer can and would want to do at this stage”.
I believe the owners of Toronto’s Trump Tower should change its name.
Vancouver’s Trump tower is scheduled to open in 2016.
