Sofia Boutella in talks to play titular role in ‘The Mummy’
There was also a rumor Universal wanted Tom Cruise to play a present day Navy Seal who happens upon the Mummy while on a mission to find a terrorist group. Really, out of everyone that has been bandied about for the role, she might just be the best option.
Her career has flourished since she played the blade-legged assassin Gazelle in Kingsman: The Secret Service and Sofia Boutella has another potentially big role in her sights.
Sofia Boutella was born on April 6, 1982 in Algeria. TheWrap adds that while she has an offer, negotiations with studio Universal are still in the early stages. Yes, as previously reported, this new take on the Mummy will be female.
The Mummy is set for release on March 24th, 2017. Other potential films revolve around the characters of Dracula, Frankenstein, the Invisible Man, the Bride of Frankenstein and vampire hunter Van Helsing.
It’s cool to see a woman land the role-especially as, beyond The Mummy, Boutella would now star in multiple Universal Monsters films as part of plans for a Marvel-esque shared universe. She also recently joined Charlize Theron and James McAvoy in the Cold War thriller The Coldest City, from John Wick co-director David Leitch.
