Controversial Pharmaceutical CEO Buys Wu-Tang Clan $2 Million Album
Bloomberg Businessweek reports that the pharmaceutical executive bought the latest Wu-Tang Clan album for $2 million.
You might recognize Shkreli as the pharmaceutical exec behind the company that sells the anti-parasitic drug Daraprim, the price of which surged from .50 to 0 per pill this fall.
Reportedly, the deal to buy the album was completed before the controversy of Shkreli’s drug price gouging came to light.
“We made a decision to give a significant portion of the proceeds to charity”, RZA said.
It turns out that in addition to being so hardcore that he pretended to break his hand in a fit of rage during a feud with Bernie “Da Boss” Sanders, Shkreli considers himself to be fully down with the streets, son.
According to Cleveland.com, Shkreli has drawn even more ire by telling Bloomberg that he hasn’t even listened to the album.
You nearly have to feel bad for “the most hated man in America”.
Of course, among the group was Martin Shkreli, who eventually won the bid.
Wu-Tang Clan member RZA explained to Bloomberg that his group had no idea that the man they were selling their secret album to would one day go on to become the despised Pharma Bro of Internet legend. Enlarge Martin Shkreli via YouTube Martin Shkreli hosted a live stream on Wednesday where he taunted fans by refusing to play his exclusive Wu-Tang album.

The album includes a single called C.R.E.A.M., which stands for “Cash Rules Everything Around Me”, and which features the oft-repeated phrase “Dolla dolla bill, y’all!”
Shkreli, who started as a clerk at a hedge fund while still in college, has a history of business practices dubbed unscrupulous by critics, and, occasionally, by former colleagues and at least one court. Admittedly, the two didn’t have much in common, he says, adding that he “can’t say” he grew to know the rapper too well.
So who bought the album? He would probably listen to it then put it online for the rest of us to enjoy. He once joked on Twitter about trying to buy Katy Perry’s guitar so he could get a date with her. He purchased Kurt Cobain’s Visa card in a Paddle8 auction and occasionally produces it to get a rise out of people when it’s time to pay a check.
