Browns place QB McCown on IR

After starting Cleveland Browns quarterback Josh McCown was injured in Monday night’s loss to the Baltimore Ravens, many thought the team would add another signal caller to the roster.

Pettine said he was not ready to name a starting quarterback for Sunday, when the Browns (2-9) will host the Cincinnati Bengals (9-2). But then Josh McCown broke his collarbone against the Ravens on Monday, meaning the quarterback spot became free once more.

“It’s a tough one to wrap your brain around”, Browns coach Mike Pettine said.

ANOTHER CONCUSSION: Browns cornerback Justin Gilbert sustained a concussion while returning a kickoff in the third quarter of his first start this season. If the Browns do not start Manziel in this situation, don’t expect him to be in a Browns uniform next season. He threw 10 passes, completing seven for 77 yards and a touchdown thrown to receiver Travis Benjamin to tie the Ravens at 27 points.

Davis, 26, signed with the Browns on September 7 after going 3-5 in eight games as a starter for the St. Louis Rams last season while filling in for Sam Bradford. “Austin is the guy for this week”.

“I was desperate and frustrated at the same time”, Hill said.

Manziel is 1-2 as a starter this season.

“I don’t want to get into punishment and length of it”, he said. Perhaps he will play well to end the season, but will that solve anything?

“It has been a wild year”, Davis said following the loss to the Ravens. When he got hurt, they went to Davis since Manziel had been demoted to third-string after he was caught partying at a nightclub, something he’s not supposed to do since he was in rehab this summer.

“Given where we are, it’s safe to say now this is a weekly decision”. If I offered you either side of the Austin Davis or Johnny Manziel question, and asked, “who will start more National Football League games in their career going forward?”

McCown was ruled out for the season Tuesday with a broken clavicle and was officially placed on injured reserve Wednesday. Or at least that’s what it looks like before the draft, when a quarterback will certainly be selected.

In addition, the Browns signed offensive lineman Dan France to the practice squad and released offensive lineman Ronald Patrick from the practice squad.
