Holly Holm wants another fight before facing Ronda Rousey in July rematch
“Anything can happen in the sport, but we haven’t come to terms on the rematch, and until we come to terms we just want to keep plugging away”.
Rousey admitted in an interview with ESPN, “I’m the only one that’s scared when I walk in there”. “What made the love world Ronda is that Ronda absolutely 100% knew she was not going to lose”. In a recent interview with ESPN Magazine, the former champion said it might take her “three to six months to eat an apple”.
Out of all the sins Ronda Rousey has committed in the eyes of her critics, none was so unforgivable as her refusal to touch gloves with Holly Holm as they squared off in the Octagon.
A future rematch between Ronda Rousey and Holly Holm is doubtful after the severe beating Rousey took.
It’s not so fine with Holm and her manager, who don’t want the new bantamweight champion to have to wait that long for her next fight.
Holm’s manager, Lenny Fresquez, told The Times Tuesday that he met with UFC officials Monday and received a proposal for that fight, but expressed concerns that Rousey wouldn’t be ready following her second-round knockout loss November 14 in Australia.
“I just feel so embarrassed”, Rousey said, adding that she’s sad and after cutting her mouth in the first round she wasn’t thinking like a fighter.
As big as that fight would be, Fresquez would prefer to keep Holm busy in the interim with a title bout against top contender Miesha Tate in “February or March”. Fresquez identified Miesha Tate as the next challenger before the rematch, stating that Holly wants to “fight the best, and right now Miesha’s the best”.
“I wasn’t thinking clearly”, Rousey told ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne.
He expressed no concerns with Rousey’s ability to rebound from the defeat, iced by Holm’s vicious kick to Rousey’s head. “I need to beat this chick.” – but Tate may get the first crack at the new champion.
