Grammys 2016: 12 of the Worst Nomination Snubs

Although this music award ceremony is not without its relentless critics and haters, claiming it to be profit-oriented rather than a genuine event that recognizes the true No. 1’s among different categories, still the Grammy Awards remain to be internationally acknowledged. And that’s only if the broadest possible definition of the term is employed.

Lamar will compete in the best album category with Swift’s “1989”, The Weeknd’s “Beauty Behind the Madness”, country singer Chris Stapleton’s “Traveller” and rock band Alabama Shakes’ “Sand & Color”.

A battle between upbeat, finely crafted pop and politically minded hip-hop seems to be what’s shaping up for the biggest prizes at this year’s Grammy Awards. Not only was 1989 the highest-selling album of the year (aside from Adele, not eligible), she recently filmed a Grammys special where she talked about how rough it was to lose album of the year in 2014. It’s likely that 25 will remain on top of the charts through the end of the year, based on its current stamina, and yet Adele’s latest album was not among this morning’s Grammy nominees.

Song of the year reflects more of the Grammys’ social conscience with Lamar’s bruised but hopeful Alright, and Girl Crush, Little Big Town’s country hit that slyly argues for the acceptance of same-sex romance in that often hidebound genre. James Bay, Tori Kelly and Meghan Trainor are all reasonably popular and sufficiently talented, at least if a strong natural singing voice is still what we’re looking for in our new artists. He won a Grammy Award in 2013 when Take Care grabbed the gold for Best Rap Album.

The Weeknd has emerged as one of the hottest names in music today.

Despite this year’s disappointing news, she hasn’t exactly fallen short before.

The 24-year-old tweeted: “I wasn’t expecting the Grammy noms, thank you“. The creation of the regional roots music category opened the door for artists with relatively small commercial footprints – i.e. most acts that live and work in Louisiana – to get a foot in the door at the Grammys. If he comes through, it would be his first Grammy victory in three tries. He’s up against savvy southwest Louisiana combo the Revelers, whose members weave elements of Cajun, zydeco, swamp pop and Americana into their musical tapestry. Despite success with tours, albums and singles, Luke Bryan was also snubbed and has yet to earn a Grammy nomination. Her other nominations are for pop solo performance, pop duo or group performance, pop vocal album and music video.

This year’s awards look at songs that were released between October 1 2014 and September 1, 2015, and will air on CBS on February 15, 2016.
