Police investigate reports of punches at council meeting
Residents of Hymera, Indiana are still in shock after a fist fight broke out between the current and former town marshals at a meeting on Tuesday.
A vote to install Daryl McCollough (left, getting punched) as the new town marshal in Hymera led to an all-out brawl. Former marshal of 15 years Darrick Cullison says he was wrongly fired in October and has legal action against the board.
The animosity stems from the controversy surrounding the town marshal position.
“I think it got a little out of hand”, Roger Thompson said. “When they started yelling at what I said and I didn’t say, this other gal started to step in and screaming and yelling and she don’t know nothing and I told her to shut up”.
WTHI obtained video showing two men attacking McCullough following the decision.
The Indiana State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigations is now looking into the case. Cullison was seeking his job back and any salary he missed since. Cottom confirms that Darrick Cullison had worked as a civilian, non-sworn, employee of the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office since last March.
McCullough and Cullison did not return requests for comment, although Cullison reportedly wrote an email to WTHI saying simply: “I’m sorry”.
