For his efforts in sparking a swift turnaround for the Florida Gators football program, Jim McElwain was recognized as SEC Coach of the Year. Tennessee’s Evan Berry was named the SEC Special Teams Player of the Year, Texas A&M’s Christian Kirk was named the SEC Freshman of the Year… It’s a long wait until New Year’s Eve when Alabama plays the Michigan State Spartans in the Cotton Bowl in the College Football Playoff semifinal, so this should get plenty of run.

The primary beneficiary in the running game of Arkansas’ dominant offensive line, Collins joined Arkansas great Darren McFadden and Georgia legend Herschel Walker as the only three players in SEC history to start their careers with three straight 1,000 yard seasons.
