German goalkeeper Hitz billed for damaging penalty spot
But before that, Hitz sneakily dug a hole next to the penalty spot, with Modeste then placing his standing foot straight into the keeper’s DIY trap.
Augsburg goalkeeper Marwin Hitz has come under fire following his decision on Saturday to use his cleats to cause a huge divet in the field which resulted in Cologne’s Anthony Modeste missing a critical penalty shot. The French striker slipped as he took the penalty and Hitz made the save to help his team to the win. But a bit of punishment does not hurt.
Hitz reportedly apologised for his actions while Augsburg manager Markus Weinzierl said it wasn’t a fair act.
“With a wink, I like to pay my debts”.
Hitz took it all in stride and said he would pay the bill and also make a donation to the children’s hospital.
According to the Kolner Express newspaper, the bill is itemised and includes one square metre of turf, two hours of labour, and additional sales tax.
“Even if Augsburg is of the opinion that the fix work should take less than two hours, to support the work, we will send a lawnmower on behalf of our sponsors”.
