Police report finding cocaine on Scott Weiland’s tour bus
According to audio from the 911 call obtained by TMZ, dispatchers noted that the former Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver frontman appeared to have suffered a cardiac arrest.
Weiland’s death was announced Friday morning on his social media accounts.
He had been scheduled to perform with his new band, Scott Weiland & The Wildabouts, when he was found dead in the group’s tour bus, news reports said. The band’s 1992 debut album, “Core“, was an insta-hit and sold 8 million units. The band won a Grammy for Best Hard Rock Performance for the song “Plush”.
Weiland, known for his growling vocals and shock of dyed red hair, came to symbolize the early 1990s grunge era as lead singer and lyricist for the Stone Temple Pilots.
Meanwhile, members of the rock band Stone Temple Pilots issued a statement through a spokeswoman on the death of their former lead singer, who had been on tour with his new band, the Wildabouts. After the band split, Weiland formed Velvet Revolver, a group with Guns N’ Roses members Slash and Duff McKagan.
Weiland’s former bandmates posted on Facebook on Friday that while he “struggled” in his life, he was also “gifted beyond words”.
Two years later, Weiland returned to the D.C. area for the HFStival at FedEx Field in Landover.
He had battled substance abuse problems for years, but said he was sober.
