The Department for Education (DfE) figures showed that just 676 primary schools in England failed to meet the government’s floor target of at least 65% of pupils reaching level four or above in reading, writing and maths, compared with 768 a year ago after the floor standard was raised from 60%.

The wealthy west London borough could also boast arguably the best primary school in England, Fox Primary in Notting Hill, where the average points score achieved by its 42 pupils was bested only by the six pupils at Little Dewchurch village primary school in Herefordshire.

Poole, the joint lowest-performing authority in today’s primary results, was congratulated by Schools Week earlier int the year for being the authority with the second most increased GCSE results in the country – showing how primary and secondary schools in the same area can vary widely in their performance.

The gap between disadvantaged pupils and their wealthier peers at primary schools has decreased in each of the last four years, narrowing by 7 per cent since 2011.
Such measures will ensure that this year’s success is sustained for decades to come, and this Government will move ever closer to achieving our commitment to ensure educational excellence for every child.
Bradford was also in the bottom ten nationally with 76 per cent of pupils achieving the benchmark.
