Ex-Stone Temple Pilots frontman Weiland dead
“Dear Scott”, his former Stone Temple band mates wrote in a poignant farewell on Facebook, “Let us start by saying thank you for sharing your life with us”.
Weiland, who served as frontman for rock groups Velvet Revolver and STP, died while he was sleeping in Bloomington, Minnesota – an account which his agent, Tom Vitorino, confirmed to NBC News.
“Detectives collected several items of evidence from inside the tour bus, [including] a small quantity of suspected controlled substance that field-tested positive as cocaine, in the bedroom where Mr. Weiland was located”, the department’s statement said.
Eric Kretz and brothers Dean and Robert DeLeo rose to fame with Weiland, as Stone Temple Pilots became one of the most commercially successful bands to come out of the early 1990s grunge rock movement. Together, the two records sold 14 million copies in the United States, and “Plush” earned a Grammy for best hard rock performance in 1994.
Stone Temple Pilots was forced to go on hiatus after the release of its 1996 album, “Tiny Music…” The band released the albums Contraband and Libertad, before Weiland was sacked in 2008 following a series of substance abuse issues and a public falling out with his bandmates.
Scott was also known for fronting the band Velvet Revolver as well as Stone Temple Pilots.
Now as they’re left to speculate about Weiland’s death, they also reflect.
His third wife, photographer Jamie Wachtel Weiland, said that her husband hadn’t done drugs in years and that the band members had a pact not to do drugs. “Part of that gift was part of your curse”.
“Just learned our friend Scott Weiland has died”. “And I guess you can only hope that this example resonates with some people about the choices they make while they’re young and what the consequences are”.
Black was arrested and booked for 5th degree felony possession of drugs. Among that group’s hits was “Fall to Pieces”. The Stone Temple Pilots frontman had struggled with addiction, but had reportedly cleaned up his act in recent years. After their divorce, he was married to the model Mary Forsberg from 2000 to 2007; the couple have two children, Noah and Lucy.
