Jordan eager to get back in the ring with a ‘Creed’ sequel
The Rocky franchise is the gift that keeps on giving. Also Creed is leading the Tuesday night previews with $1.4 million, ahead of The Good Dinosaur’s $1.2 million (that number is higher than most original animations so don’t think for a second that Creed could potentially take the weekend, it can’t and it won’t and that’s ok). His break comes after his true identity as Adonis Creed’s son is leaked to the press.
“You know, at first you feel like shit, you’re hurting”, he said.
Fight scenes and montages, which have been a noteworthy draw of past films, continue to stand out.
Jordan plays Adonis Johnson, a kid with money and connections who still spent time in juvy, fighting – a lot.
After almost 40 years, Sylvester Stallone just can’t quit Rocky Balboa.
We catch up with Rocky living the life of a local legend in his native Philadelphia. The scene captivated audiences so much that the stairs are now commonly referred to as “the Rocky steps”, and at the bottom of the steps there’s even a statue of the boxer with his fists up.
The film has a chance to tell the story of a man who is a product of foster care and has something to prove, but pulls some punches along the way. And if you don’t love that sort of thing, just go see something else. But that resemblance can be a hinderance as well. By then, Apollo was the sidekick and the sacrificial friend, an injustice that “Creed”, by its very title, seeks to redress. There is a girl he falls for, there is a fight that sets him up, and there is anger over wanting to be his own man while being Apollo’s son.
The Los Angeles Times reported that “Rocky” might be seen by fans as something that’s already done. Usually when you get to number seven in a franchise you’ve officially jumped the shark and given up, but “Creed” is different because it’s actually one of the better films in the catalogue. That drive and that sub plot development is something that previous Rockys certainly didn’t have. Rocky has only one goal, to make Adonis a champion. He heads to Philadelphia to find the Italian Stallion.
TURAN: Donnie, desperate for the formal ring training he’s never had, is not easily put off. Before you know it – because there wouldn’t be any movie otherwise – Rocky is helping out, cluing Donnie into old-school training methods, like chasing chickens to increase speed. It is classic Rock but that is also it’s problem. He appeared in seasons four and five, before the show ended in 2011.
Sylvester Stallone and Michael B. Jordan in Creed. He saves his explosions for the ring and, more quietly, a final acknowledgement that is both stunning and obvious, but you don’t realize it’s the latter until he has said it. His final, epic match against champ “Pretty” Ricky Conlan (real-life fighter Tony Bellew), who is on his way to prison, hits all the right notes and, in its way, brings the story full circle.
