The Yankees are confident Castro, signed by the Cubs in 2006 as a 16-year-old amateur free agent out of the Dominican Republic, has his best days ahead.
Castro batted. 265 with 11 home runs and 69 RBI, a significant decline from 2014 when he batted. He takes walks, he hits doubles, he gets on base and he scores: despite his declining speed, it wouldn’t be insane to project Zobrist as the Cubs’ leadoff hitter next year. I think that’s a good opportunity for me with my new team, ” Castro said Wednesday on a conference call from his home in Tampa, Fla., where the Yankees conduct spring training. Cashman said? “I like that he’s athletic”.
Ben Zobrist (right) and his manager-buddy Joe Maddon. Castro said his family told him to “trust my talent”. That’s who he is, man. I’m really excited. “That moment made me grow up more”.
“The first two games I played there I felt a little bit weird, ” said Castro, who is being viewed as a major upgrade over Dustin Ackley and Rob Refsnyder at the plate and in the field. “I think the ownership’s comfort level is walking that tightrope rather than tear down and live to fight another day”. We’re trying to win every year and we’re trying to get younger and transition. Castro better prove to his new organization that he’s worth the big bucks. This year, the Yankees made a few more deals, acquiring Aaron Hicks and Starlin Castro. But he batted just.
Theo Epstein has fully completed his turnover of the club: Starlin Castro was the last remaining player on the roster that was here when Epstein took over following the 2011 season, and now he’s gone.
He’ll be remembered for his 991 hits through age 25, his three All-Star appearances, his occasional booted ball or bad throw, and his knack for getting a big hit at the end of a game. The Yankees get younger and more athletic and the Mets are left with many questions. A 32-year-old right-hander, Lowe was 1-3 with a 1.96 ERA for Seattle and Toronto this year, striking out 61 in 55 innings.
He never completely lived up to what he could’ve been in Chicago, but Castro was a unique character in the Cubs’ quest for their first World Series title since 1908. And while Ryan is a good clubhouse guy, he is merely a strong defensive replacement late in games at this point in his career.
For their part, the Yankees gave up Adam Warren and Brendan Ryan.
With the deal, the Yankees have seven starting pitching options: Masahiro Tanaka, Luis Severino, CC Sabathia, Michael Pineda, Nathan Eovaldi, Ivan Nova and Bryan Mitchell. The addition of Zobrist also makes sense in multiple ways for the city of Chicago as he would be under the coaching of his former manager Joe Maddon.
This move likely fills the second base slot that plagued the Yankees for much of 2015.
