Israel jails Palestinian politician for 15 months, sparking uproar
An Israeli army spokesperson had no information of his death, but said that Israeli soldiers had opened fire after Palestinians threw “pipe bombs and Molotov cocktails” at them.
Jarrar, a senior member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), was abducted in April on charges of violating a travel ban and also encouraging Palestinians to carry out attacks against Israel, Press TV reported.
In addition to the stabbings, car-rammings, and shootings, there have been many incidents of Palestinians throwing rocks at Israeli cars in the West Bank and attacking Jerusalem’s light rail as it passes through East Jerusalem neighborhoods. It said forces fired warning shots to disperse them.
THOUSANDS of Palestinians attended the funeral for a youth killed by Israeli troops yesterday, as Israel announced it had jailed a female MP.
Abu Qtaish told Quds Press that the vast majority of the killings took place during operations against the Israeli occupation, in which “the children did not pose a danger to the Israeli soldiers who, in turn, did not use gradual measures like arresting them or firing on their lower bodies”.
While Israel holds more than 6,700 Palestinian political prisoners, the arrest of the prominent figure Jarrar was also criticized by the European Union and Amnesty International.
Seen through U.S. and Israeli flags, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry walks down the stairs, Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2015, upon arrival in Tel Aviv, Israel.
The 19-year-old is said to have been among a group of people demonstrating against the soldiers, who had arrived to arrest two men – both of whom were reportedly apprehended.
The Israeli daily Haaretz asserted in an editorial calling for her release: “it is hard to escape the conclusion that Jarrar’s arrest was political in nature, meant as payback for her public activities regarding the International Criminal Court”.
“These dolls were making their way to the Palestinian Authority with one clear objective”, Deputy Foreign Minister Tzipi Hotovely said in the report.
“These were dolls in the colours of the Palestinian flag and bearing the slogans “Jerusalem is for us” and “Jerusalem we are coming”, the statement said.
