The Philadelphia Phillies shocked the world when they selected corner outfielder Tyler Goeddel with the first-overall pick in the draft on Wednesday.
As you probably know, players selected in the Rule 5 have to remain on the 25-man roster all season after being selected. 279 with 12 home runs and 72 RBIs for Double-A Montgomery. Hard for many to make the jump.

The Orioles were expected to select an outfielder with speed, allowing them a better chance to carry him on the roster for the entire season.
Of the players the Nationals didn’t put on their 40-man roster who are exposed to the Rule 5, there aren’t a ton of attractive possibilities for other teams to ponder. He has instincts. He can steal bases.
What’s often forgotten is that then-general manager Wayne Krivsky not only got Hamilton that day (after a trade with the Cubs, who selected him for the Reds), he also picked up a useful bullpen piece in Jared Burton in the second round that day.
Alfaro will likely begin next season with double-A Reading, while 24-year-old Andrew Knapp starts the season in triple-A Lehigh Valley.
