Anonymous vows to seek revenge on RCMP following Dawson Creek shooting
DAWSON CREEK, B.C. – A man has died after being shot by the RCMP during a confrontation with officers in Dawson Creek, B.C.
Then the voice states that there will be consequences if the officer is not named, fired, arrested, and charged for the death of the man, who was wearing a Guy Fawkes mask.
On arriving, the RCMP officers ran into a man wearing a Guy Fawkes mask and thought he was connected to the complaint.
Pivot Legal Society lawyer Doug King said B.C.’s police community must undergo the same kind of self-reflection that Toronto experienced when 19-year-old Sammy Yatim was shot by officers while holding a knife.
Spokeswoman Kellie Kilpatrick said a forensic specialist was to take over the scene while investigators spoke with witnesses and secured any video.
One officer appears to kick something away from the man although the object can not be seen.
Witness Andrea Taggart says the first thing she heard was a young man screaming.
An investigation has been launched after a man was shot and killed after a physical struggle with police.
Several other officers eventually appear. Dave Attfield of the Surrey RCMP said in a press release.
User @jaymack9 tweeted on Thursday afternoon that an Anonymous “splinter group” was to attend the Site C meeting in Dawson Creek that night.
One person is dead following an officer-involved shooting in South Surrey early Saturday that ended with a police officer also wounded.
“We are all aware of this and we take all precautions”, said Kilpatrick of the post. The hearings have attracted protesters, primarily representing First Nations and environmental groups.
Anonymous has made public its intention to search for and publish private and identifying information about the officer involved, a practice it calls “doxing”. One of the officers appears to bring the man’s hands behind his back to handcuff him. One crouches near a cruiser with a long gun just before the video ends. Those groups have also filed lawsuits to try to stop construction.
Late Friday, Kilpatrick corrected earlier statements suggesting the man who was shot was causing a disturbance inside the BC Hydro open house.
The IIO is asking anyone with information about what happened in the area to come forward, saying cell phone videos are of particular interest.
