Cate Blanchett in talks for leading role in ‘Thor: Ragnarok’
She already wields an Oscar, but is Thor’s hammer next for Cate Blanchett?
Per The Hollywood Reporter, Cate Blanchett will join the third “Thor” for an *officially* unknown role, but reportedly the studio had been looking for a “bad-ass female” to cast for the pic before signing Blanchett. No details are known about what the role could be for, but you have to imagine it’s something somewhat substantial if you go through the trouble to get Blanchett on board.
Marvel has been bringing in more and more talent as their film universe has expanded, with Robert Redford joining Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and Glenn Close in Guardians of the Galaxy.
“Thor: Ragnarok” would be Blanchett’s first comic book movie, but she’s no stranger to the sci-fi/fantasy genre. She appeared in all three of Peter Jackson’s “Lord of the Rings” movies as Lady Galadriel, then reprised the role for the entire “Hobbit” trilogy. It has also been confirmed that Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk will play a major part in the storyline.
Taika Waititi will be directing, with a script written by Craig Kyle, Christopher Yost, and Stephany Folsom.
Blanchett was on Thursday nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award for her performance in the 1950s lesbian romance, Carol, putting her on track for her seventh Oscar invite.
Thor: Ragnarok will end your world, and possibly Thor’s, on November 3rd, 2017.
