Disney Developing Live-Action The Sword in the Stone Remake
Over the past year we have reported on quite a few live-action Disney adaptations that are planned for theaters, but other than “Mulan“, this might be our favorite.
What does Game of Thrones have in common with The Sword in the Stone? More information on who will voice Archimedes, the greatest animated Owl outside “The Secret of NIMH” that we can recall without Google, and the casting of Merlin and Wart will be announced as the project moves closer to production. If you’re familiar with Cogman’s body of work, then you know this guy knows his way around the fantasy genre. There’s no word on what kind of story approach he’ll be taking with the King Arthur and Merlin saga, but I’d wager the pitch at the board meeting at Disney went something like this: “It’s like “Game Of Thrones”…but for kids!”
The Sword in the Stone was the final movie released before Walt Disney’s death, and is based loosely on T.H. In addition to the world of Westeros, he is also helping to transform Magic: The Gathering into a movie and he already finished his adaptation of the young adult fantasy novel The False Prince. Of course, with this being a Disney creation, it was a lot more lighthearted.
The 1963 animated pic followed a 12-year-old orphan named Arthur who became king after removing a sword from an anvil in London.
