Chicago Bears ‘D’ holds up late; Packers seek answers in passing game
Cutler threw for 200 yards and a score, and the Bears held off the Green Bay Packers on fourth-and-goal from the 8 with 22 seconds left for a 17-13 victory.
Green Bay Packers’ Aaron Rodgers lays on the field after failing to complete on fourth down in the final seconds of an NFL football game against the Chicago Bears Thursday, Nov. 26, 2015, in Green Bay, Wis. The Bears won 17-13.
The Green Bay Packers lost to the Chicago Bears, who seem to be surging, on Thanksgiving.
However, for the first time in 13 games against the Packers as the Bears’ quarterback, Cutler did not throw an interception. Instead, they had to settle for a ball that went through Adams’s hands in their own end zone.
Cornerback Tracy Porter emerged as a hero from a blue-collar defensive effort, intercepting Rodgers with 3 minutes, 19 seconds to play.
In his first year in Chicago, Fox has instilled confidence in his team that it can hang tough in close games. “But the thing of it is we’ve always been there, we’ve always had a shot”.
Favre’s successor at quarterback stayed in the game after appearing to hurt his left arm in the third quarter after getting hit from behind near the elbow by linebacker Lamarr Houston while recovering a high snap.
In his four previous games at Lambeau, all losses, Cutler had thrown 12 interceptions. Green Bay will want to win today to ensure they can at the very least end this week with a share of the top spot, however, a victory today would put a lot of pressure back on Minnesota to claim a win at the weekend to keep in touch.
Favre’s number actually has already been retired by the Packers.
Brett Favre had his No. 4 retired and unveiled on the Lambeau Field facade. “So much has changed, so much is new, and I really enjoy these guys in the locker room and the coaching staff. I think you look across that locker room and you see a lot of guys playing for each other, which is fun”. We’ve lost four games – two at home, which is uncharacteristic of us the last couple years. Also, a deflected pass caromed way up into the air and no one could come down with it, and QB Jay Cutler fumbled a shotgun snap but the Packers couldn’t get the ball from him.
Lacy returned to the field in the second half, but the team limited him to just seven touches (he finished with 21) and refused to use him during the game-deciding drive at the end of the game.
Eddie Lacy found himself benched in this game for what head coach Mike McCarthy deemed an inexcusable fumble. Jeffrey would finish with 7 catches for 90 yards and the Bears needed all of those on Thursday night. “We had opportunities to catch the football, protect the football….”
“Man, we’ve all been wearing them hoodies in practice now forever”.
Rob Demovsky of ESPN reports Rodgers became the fastest quarterback to reach 250 career touchdown passes when running back Eddie Lacy scored on a 25-yard screen pass in the first quarter of the Green Bay-Chicago Thanksgiving Day game. Mason Crosby would add a 22-yard field goal to cut the deficit, then the Bears stretched the lead with a 1-yard Jeremy Langford rushing TD. Safety Antrel Rolle (ankle, knee) missed a second straight game due to injury and has missed four games this season….
The Bears have had their ups and downs this season so far, but they shown that when they are prepared for a game they can dig deep and find a way to win.
The defense made the biggest statement. In the early going, the Bears offense was as sloppy as the weather, picking up only one first down on their first five possessions.
