‘Carol,’ Netflix lead a wide-ranging Golden Globes field

As always, the Golden Globe nominations were filled with oddities • here are some of the strangest surprises and snubs in TV and movies. However, the more remarkable news related to the network is that this is the first time in 10 years that it has not received the most nominations.
Though some questionable category decisions left less humorous films competing for best comedy or musical, two of comedy’s top stars will crash the party: Melissa McCarthy and Schumer.

Depp was part of one of the Golden Globes’ most flagrant celebrity-lusting episodes when he and Angelina Jolie-Pitt were nominated for the abominable “The Tourist”. “Casual”, on Hulu, shares the category with “Mozart in the Jungle” and “Transparent” (both on Amazon), “Orange is the New Black” (Netflix), and “Silicon Valley” and “Veep” (HBO). Since the Academy Awards expanded beyond five nominations in 2009, the SAG Awards ensemble prize has matched at least four out of five nominees every year but one.

The film, directed by Lenny Abrahamson, also picked up Golden Globe nominations for best film drama and best film actress in a drama for Bree Larson, who plays the child’s mother. “I didn’t shower.” – “My Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” star Rachel Bloom on her physical condition when finding out about her nomination for best actress in a TV comedy.
The Screen Actors Guild announced its nominations on Wednesday. Landing four nominations were Adam McKay’s finance farce “The Big Short, ” the Apple co-founder drama “Steve Jobs, ” and Alejandro Inarritu’s frontier epic “The Revenant”. Who were you pleasantly surprised to see was on the list of nominees and who were you shocked to see didn’t make the cut? Robin Wright of House of Cards was nominated for the same award in the drama category.
Box office hit “The Martian” received three nominations: best picture comedy, best director (Ridley Scott) and best actor (Matt Damon).
The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which bestows the Golden Globes, exhibited a lack of sentiment for AMC’s “Mad Men”, which completed its stellar run last season.
“Today they are turning out to be one of the most exciting places on television… and now for feature film as well”. The SAGs nominated her for Supporting Actress for “Danish Girl”, but here, she’s a lead.
On the TV side, they’re still playing games with definitions, classifying the ongoing shows Luther, Fargo and American Horror Story as miniseries so they can nominate Idris Elba, Patrick Wilson, Kirsten Dunst and Lady Gaga for acting awards. And it’s not just that premium cable stations like HBO and Showtime are sucking up all the acclaim anymore – now upstart online streaming services like Netflix, Amazon and even Hulu are stealing network TV’s thunder as well.
