Record breaker Jamie Vardy reveals how he played through pain
Leicester City and Manchester United played to a 1-1 draw and that match saw Jamie Vardy score in his eleventh consecutive game.
Although Jamie Vardy took his goal tally for the season to 14, Leicester City were knocked off top spot as Bastian Schweinsteiger’s header at the end of the first half secured a point for Manchester United.
His stunning run of form has led many to tip the 28-year-old for a starring role at next summer’s Euro finals, but he insists he has plenty of work to do to secure his place in the Three Lions squad. You could have forgiven him for buckling under pressure, but Leicester’s number nine would not be denied.
He kept a lid on his excitement as he spoke to Sky Sports after the 1-1 draw with Manchester United, killing fans’ hopes that Jamie Vardy was actually soon to be having a party.
The King Power Stadium erupted with joy and neutrals all around the world would have joined in too as Vardy created history with one strike of the ball.
Even though he was unhappy with his side’s defending on the goal, Van Gaal reserved rich praise for Rooney’s England team-mate Vardy.
Without doubt the story of the Premier League season has been Leicester City’s rise.
To their credit the United players showed their appreciation afterwards, joining the club’s former servant Van Nistelrooy in offering their congratulations.
Vardy’s eligibility for the Champions League and the fact he qualifies as a home-grown player means Leicester are confident of holding out for a significant fee for the striker who is likely to be at the fulcrum of transfer speculation in the coming months.
“But I am not so happy because we are Manchester United and if you want to win something, you have to win at Leicester. We didn’t play well”.
“Just to see him build a life for them is good because I know that’s what he wanted to do most of all”.
If Vardy finds the net at Swansea next weekend, he will become the first player since the 1931-32 season to score in 12 straight games.
“I do think they are quite close when I think about it with my head, but my heart thinks I’d like to see them die trying a little bit more and go for it. I can say our organisation is bad but he is provoking that also”, he said after watching his side finish with 69 per cent possession and limiting the hosts to three shots on target.
