Planned Parenthood shooter’s outbursts in court
Delise allegedly called on Tuesday the Planned Parenthood facility in Colorado Springs, which remains closed after the November 27 mass shooting, and the call was transferred to a Planned Parenthood in Denver, Fountain police said in a media release. “I’m a warrior for the babies”, Robert Lewis Dear yelled, according to reporters in the room.
Nine other people were injured in the attack on Planned Parenthood.
El Paso County District Attorney Dan May said after an initial court hearing for Dear last week that it was too early to decide whether to seek the death penalty.
“I’m not going to agree to their mental health evaluations where they’d want to take me and put me under psychotropic drugs so that I can’t talk like the Batman guy”, Dear said to the judge at the end of the hearing. I am a warrior for the babies.
King also represented James Holmes during the Aurora theater shooting trial.
On a day on which prosecutors filed 179 felony charges against him, Dear – wearing an aqua jump suit and leg irons – made his thoughts known – through almost 20 outbursts during the proceeding.
Judge Martinez set the next hearing for Dear for December 23.
Killed in the attack were Jennifer Markovsky, 36, Army veteran Ke’Arre Marcell Stewart, 29, and police Officer Garrett Swasey.
Nine people were also wounded.
“Do you know who this lawyer is?”.
The Daily News also reported that one of Dear’s ex-wives, Barbara Mescher Micheau, claimed he once vandalized a Planned Parenthood clinic in SC two decades ago by putting glue in the locks.
Anti-abortion groups, as well as many Republicans who oppose abortion, condemned the shooting and said they had no connection with accused attacker. What’s more, a law enforcement official told the Associated Press that Dear asked someone for directions to the Planned Parenthood location before he opened fire there.
“The situation has been resolved and there’s no continuing peril to the citizens of Colorado Springs”, said Mayor John Suthers.
The lawmakers have cited a video circulated by anti-abortion activists who contend it shows Planned Parenthood officials discussing the sale of aborted fetal tissue.
Dear said he wants the legal process to go as fast as possible.
“I can not accept that Mr. Dear is competent as he sits here today”, King said.
