Category kerfuffle adds to drama of Golden Globe nominations

For the first time ever, Netflix has been nominated for the most Golden Globes and more than every other network, streaming service, and premium cable network, according to a report from Entertainment Weekly.

The nominees for the 2016 Golden Globes were announced this morning, and as usual it’s a mixture of artistic appreciation and blatant pandering, as the HFPA bends over backwards to invite as many shiny people to their party as they can.
Alicia Vikander, the ubiquitous star of 2015, joined the best dramatic actress field for Tom Hooper’s transgender pioneer drama “The Danish Girl”, as well as the supporting actress one for her performance as an artificial intelligence in the sci-fi indie “Ex Machina”. In addition to two nominations for limited series “Flesh and Bone”, Starz earned two for the feminist historical epic “Outlander”; USA, formerly a place for popular, critic-proof programming and reruns of old broadcast series, broke out with nominations for Best Drama and Best Actor Rami Malek for the acclaimed “Mr. Robot”.
