Manchester United Legend Ryan Giggs Wanted As Swansea Manager
Swansea City are reportedly interested in speaking to Manchester United assistant Ryan Giggs over the vacant manager’s role.
A while before then, Paul Scholes – Giggs’ mate in the Class of 92 – started laying into the conservative approach of the United manager, and you would imagine there would have been conversations between the two men about their lives and opinions on United, even if it wasn’t a plan between the two of them.
The Welsh side dismissed Garry Monk after a shocking run of results on Wednesday.
Cardiff-born Giggs has always been touted as Van Gaal’s successor but having only managed on an interim basis previously, his lack of experience could see him miss out on the United hotseat.
But after winning just three of their opening 15 top flight fixtures this time round, Swansea chose to part company with the 36-year-old.
The 42-year-old Welshman is now serving as Louis van Gaal’s assistant but with Manchester United in turmoil following their exit from the group stage of the Champions League on Tuesday, speculation is growing that Giggs will swap Old Trafford for the Liberty Stadium.
“The club’s chairman, Huw Jenkins, is open-minded about potential appointments, but the prospect of luring Giggs to Swansea would be regarded as a major coup and would also fit the Jenkins blueprint of hiring emerging coaches who favour attacking football”, the report said.
Yet Giggs is unlikely to be handed he keys of power at United without proving his worth as a manager elsewhere and the prospect of walking into a Premier League job may be too tempting for him to turn down.
Avram Grant, the former Chelsea and West Ham manager, is the latest possible candidate to emerge, but Jenkins is believed to be keen to recruit a rising, young coach.
