2002-Hit-And-Run Case: HC Acquits Salman Khan Of All Charges

Fans waiting outside his residence burst into jubilant as soon as the actor returned home from the Bombay High Court, which absolved him in connection with in connection with the 2002 hit-and-run case.

Salman challenged the sessions court verdict in the High Court.

“On basis of evidence produced by the prosecution, the appellant can not be convicted, no matter how differently the common man thinks”, the judge said, as quoted by broadcaster NDTV.

2015 is Salman Khan’s year. But on Thursday, a high court in Mumbai reversed the guilty conviction. “It is shocking, but I will reserve my comment till I see the entire judgement copy”, Gharat, who had secured a five-year jail sentence for the actor, said. He is acquitted of all charges against him.

The court held that the prosecution had failed to prove “beyond reasonable doubt” that the actor was driving the vehicle at the time of the accident and was drunk.

Yesterday, court had questioned the statement of actor’s Police Bodyguard, Ravindra Patil. Investigation was conducted in faulty manner with scant regard to procedure.

Justice for Sharif or others who were injured in the accident is still awaiting and court’s final ruling might force them to believe that they themselves were responsible for what happened to them on one dark night!!!

Shares of Mandhana Industries jumped 12 percent intraday on Thursday after Salman Khan has been acquitted of all charges in the 2002 hit-and-run case.

The Bollywood star reportedly broke down in tears upon hearing the verdict.

On Sept 28, 2002, Salman’s vehicle had rammed into a bakery shop in suburban Bandra.

The prosecution can appeal against the latest verdict in the Supreme Court. He eventually died of tuberculosis in 2007.

“Even if Patil’s statement has to be considered as partially reliable, there has to be corroboration in evidence which does not exist in this case”, Joshi said.
