Decision on Les Miles finalized in 2nd half of Saturday’s win
Moments after running back Leonard Fournette set an LSU season rushing record to snap the reeling Tigers’ three-game losing streak with a 19-7 victory over Texas A&M, LSU coach Les Miles found out in the locker room that he would remain the coach for the 2016 season.
Saturday was reportedly supposed to be Les Miles’ last game as head coach for the LSU Tigers.
After coaching the Tigers to a 19-7 triumph over Texas A&M on Saturday night, Miles learned that he’d survived an apparent behind-the-scenes campaign to oust him – at least for now.
LSU football coach Les Miles is not going anywhere, but to a bowl game next month.
“I want to make it very clear that Les Miles is our football coach and will continue to be our football coach”, Alleva said.
Texas A&M quarterback Kyle Allen, who was shaken up twice in the game, completed a 47-yard pass to Josh Reynolds to move the ball to the LSU 18 before hitting Ricky Seals-Jones for an 8-yard touchdown on third-and-goal with 3:26 left in the opening quarter.
Not to mention, the university president and the athletic director had just told Miles he still had a job in Baton Rouge.
A day many thought would end with Les Miles down and out saw the LSU coach riding high.
For most the week leading up to the game, reports came out about school boosters willing to buyout Miles’ contract (approximately $15 million).
“‘ I said ‘magnificent, ‘” Miles said. Miles will be staying at LSU and be the head coach going forward, and Fisher is staying at Florida State.
Miles also has what could be the No. 1 recruiting class in all of college football prepared to sign in February.
The SEC is perceived as the toughest conference in the country, which explains why a coach carrying Miles’ clout could conceivably be on the hot seat.
The Tigers defense carried its offense throughout the game, holding Texas A&M to 250 total yards with four sacks, an interception and two fumble recoveries.
Les Miles rode across the Tiger Stadium field on the shoulders of his players while fans chanted his name.
“The guy that delivers our body blows was Leonard Fournette”, Miles said. Midway through the third quarter, Guice took a reverse and scooted around the left end for the 50-yard touchdown, giving LSU its first touchdown of the night. Miles heard the news from Alexander after his post-game meeting with the team.
This one sure played out as if it were Miles’ final hurrah.
Peveto, in the second season of his second run as a Miles assistant, leads a dysfunctional special teams unit.
The Crimson Tide had become the benchmark of what LSU fans wanted to the Tiger program to be, especially after the Tide beat an undefeated LSU team in the 2012 BCS National Championship.
When the Tigers finally got a big play to take a 13-7 lead, it came on Guice’s 50-yard run.
More coming on this breaking story.
“We came out and limited their big plays”.
