Kobe Bryant emotional hearing years of boos turn into cheers in Philadelphia
In case you haven’t heard, Kobe Bryant has been excruciatingly bad during his final season.
As if Kobe hadn’t provided enough pride in his hometown over the years, the 76ers ended their 28-game losing streak this week by defeating the visiting Lakers 103-91.
From that moment, though, the Sixers stepped on the throttle and pushed their lead to 14 points with 7:20 to go in the game.
Bryant even smirked in the third quarter when a brief scuffle broke out among Lakers center Roy Hibbert, who appeared to push a referee, and Philadelphia’s Isaiah Canaan and JaKarr Sampson.
The Lakers moved to 3-15 with the win, with the Wizards falling to 7-9.
Okafor could glean plenty from a guy like Bryant, who has more combined seasons of experience in the league than the Sixers’ collective roster. He just couldn’t beat the previously winless Philadelphia 76ers.
According to the USA Today Sports, Lakers head coach Byron Scott will not be fired midseason as he is seen by the organization as an innocent bystander in Bryant’s final season.
The hero for Wittman was Wall, who became the first Wizards player to bag a 30-point game this season.
The crowd, packed with fans wearing No. 24 Kobe Bryant jerseys, gave the Philly-born star a standing ovation prior to tip off and cheered every time he attempted a shot.
Bryant added, “I sincerely appreciate the bad as much as I do the good, and hopefully the players coming up now understand that – understand that it’s a journey, it’s a cycle, you can’t take things personal. I pushed it really hard the last two weeks in training to get ready (for this)”, said the 37-year-old future Hall of Famer. Many were surprised when they won a game, although it was bound to happen at some point.
In a subsequent interview on Time Warner Cable SportsNet, Jeanie Buss said, “I think Kobe can do anything”.
Bryant seemed just as confident that his game will improve in a postgame interview, saying his stamina has steadily increased. He was hoping that he will win the match for his side after making the announcement to retire from National Basketball Association.
Grant had four blocked shots, Noel had nine rebounds, T.J. McConnell had six assists.
