Warriors run continues as Toronto win makes it 21-0
Saturday the Warriors were aiming to reach their 21st victory of the season.
The Brooklyn Nets (5-14) are coming from a a 108-91 loss to the New York Knicks. Carmelo Anthony had yet another bad shooting night, with just 6-of-17 shots going in. They led by as many as 17, at 26-9, and closed the first with a 30-16 lead.
He hit 10 3-pointers overall and eight in the second half.
Raptors: Toronto has led at the end of the first quarter in just six of its 21 games so far this season…. The Warriors outscored the Nets 27-18 in the fourth.
Forward Thaddeus Young led the Nets with 25 points, with two of his baskets giving the Nets leads of 66-61 and 68-63 a few minutes before Curry’s flurry. After a missed layup by Thompson, the Nets pushed the ball downcourt and Johnson hit a corner three with two seconds left to send the Nets into the break trailing just 57-54.
“Really, we didn’t have to get the starters back in there at all in the fourth on the back end of a back-to-back and that was huge”. They went scoreless over a 5-minute span. Down 75-72 with 2:44 left in the third quarter, Walton called a timeout.
“We have confidence. When the times get tough we continue to compete and rely on each other”, said forward Green. We turned the ball over a couple of times during that stretch as well.
Guard Isaiah Thomas led Boston with 23 points, including 10 in the fourth quarter.
The Warriors opened the game with a 25-8 lead and held a 15-point lead with 1:49 remaining in the first half, but Curry went on his scoring spree after Golden State faced a trio of five-point deficits.
“That’s what great players do”, Nets coach Lionel Hollins said.
Bryant received a standing ovation before the game, when the arena went dark while Pistons public address announcer John Mason read off his long list of achievements, graciously skipping the loss to Detroit in the 2004 Finals. Last night he had 44, two nights ago in Charlotte, he had 40. “When he needs to he can and when he doesn’t need to he takes a backseat to those guys”.
“That’s what great players can do”. Once he starts to get going, starts to get in his rhythm, it’s hard to stop the whole team. This team is better and more developed since last season, so they will surely have a better chance.
“One of our biggest strengths is we are never out of the game and we are always one big run from putting the game away”, said interim coach Luke Walton.
“We’ve got to calm the flame down”, Young said. It means, that Frank Vogel can play a regular unit, without having to match the Warriors. They’ve faced pretty much every situation possible.
The Nets built off their strong second quarter, taking the lead early in the third and getting up by as many as five.
Lack of team contribution: It’s no secret that when the Raptors share the ball and have a balanced attack on offense, they win.
“We have to understand it’s the best team in the league and we had them down to the last possession of both games”, DeRozan said. That’s what they came out and did in the first quarter.
