Mauled woman’s fiancé doesn’t believe she wanted dogs to kill her
A spokesman for the Medical Examiner’s Office said Hardy suffered multiple injuries. The other dog was a pit bull-husky mix and attacked “the lower part of her body”, according to Port Huron Police.
According to CBS Detroit, Hardy knew her neighbor’s dogs were risky and had always avoided them completely.
They attacked her and inflicted severe injuries to her neck and face. That’s what authorities say was the cause of death for a 22-year-old Port Huron woman who climbed a fence and was mauled by a pit bull and a pit bull mix last week, CBS affiliate WWJ reports.
“She climbed the fence and jumped in and basically subjected herself to the attacks, which constitutes a purposeful act”, Dragovic said.
“No she had a 1-year-old daughter, her sisters loved her”, Engel said. Hardy died at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak.
Hardy is survived by her 18-month-old daughter and her fiancé Matthew Grattan, who told a local newspaper he questions the suicide finding.
Dragovic said there were also scars indicating a previous suicide attempt.
The dogs involved, along with a puppy, were reportedly euthanized.
The Port Huron Police Department is working on the case with the St. Clair County Medical Examiner’s office, the St. Clair County Prosecutor’s office and the Macomb County Medical Examiner’s office.
Hardy’s fiance said he doesn’t believe his fiance would do anything to harm herself and has set up a memorial fund.
Detroit is being urged to do the same after pit bulls mauled 4-year-old Xavier Strickland to death earlier the same week. The owner of the dogs Geneke Lyons was charged with second-degree murder.
“She had a little girl… she wanted us to be a family”.
