Palestinians killed by Israeli troops in West Bank attacks
A campaign of stabbings, shootings and car-rammings by Palestinians has killed 19 Israelis and a USA citizen since the start of October.
“I say to all the people, don’t cry”, Jihad Ersheid told local media after identifying his son’s body.
Hundreds of mourners gathered Friday to bury Oday Ersheid next to his sister, Dania, who was killed in October after Israeli police said the 17-year-old pulled out a knife and screamed at Israeli troops, who opened fire.
Another assailant tried to run over Israeli soldiers in the Central West Bank within minutes of that attack.
Three Israelis were injured today in a Palestinian vehicle ramming in the northern West Bank, Israeli police said, the latest in more than two months of attacks.
Palestinian security sources identified the driver as Issa Haroub from Dir Samat village west of Hebron.
In one of the incidents on Friday, a Palestinian protester lost his life during clashes with Israeli forces in the occupied West Bank city of al-Khalil (Hebron).
In the besieged Gaza Strip, violent clashes broke out between Palestinian demonstrators and Israeli soldiers, who opened fire and killed a 41-year-old man.
The Palestinian health ministry said Sami Maadi, 41, died in the incident east of the refugee camp of Al-Bureij.
“An armed Palestinian assailant fired shots on the Gilboa crossing from several dozen metres (yards) away”, said a statement from the ministry, which employs civilian guards at the site. The Shin Bet intelligence agency said Salam is a member of Hamas from the West Bank village of Luban and that he admitted to carrying out the attack.
Separate clashes also erupted between Palestinians and Israeli forces in Kafr Kadum and Silwad.
Palestinian Media Watch – an Israeli nonprofit that researches anti-Israel incitement in the Palestinian media – explained that “so what” is a hashtag used by those posting calls for more stabbing attacks.
The majority of the Palestinians have been alleged attackers.
