Golden Globe Nominations Announced
So did Sylvester Stallone for “Creed”, giving him a nomination for the same character (Rocky Balboa) who first earned him his last Globe nomination in 1976 for “Rocky”.
The Golden Globes doubles down, nominating actors and films in both drama and musical/comedy categories, which makes for twice as many nominations.
Apart from Carol, the other best motion picture drama nominees are Mad Max: Fury Road, The Revenant, harrowing kidnap tale Room and Spotlight, which recounts the Boston Globe’s investigation into sex abuse in the Catholic Church. “Spotlight” was expected, but the other four nominees are big surprises.
The Globes, chosen by a group of about 90 journalists of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association rather than members of the film industry, have separate categories for comedy and drama and can include a wider array of films. They’re awesome in those movies.

The announcement of the Golden Globe nominations on Thursday morning did little to clarify the movie awards season. The film, which she co-wrote, also earned a nomination for best comedy or musical.
Tied with “The Big Short”, with four nominations was the follow up to “Birdman”, “The Revenant”, by Alejandro Inarritu.
SNUB: Meryl Streep, “Ricki and the Flash” It looks like this will be the rare year without Streep at an awards show. Funneling the majority of television performances into a single category is bound to end in disaster, though Christian Slater’s basically-guaranteed win for Mr. Robot will be earned and then some. However, voters gave his spot to Al Pacino in the Bleecker Street comedy “Danny Collins”.
Born Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta in Manhattan, New York, she rose to fame in 2008 after releasing a record called “The Fame”, which included her hits “Just Dance” and “Poker Face”, for which she won the “Best Dance Record” at the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards, and was nominated “Song of the Year” and “Record of the Year”, while “The Fame” was nominated for “Album of the Year” and “Best Dance/Electronica Album”. Only Jon Hamm, in the dramatic actor category, was nominated. That’s a significant elevation in rank from previous year, when Netflix came in fourth with seven nominations. Cracking the limited series field was a longshot, but recognition for stars Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn or Rachel McAdams wasn’t out of the question.
The nominees for best TV drama are Empire, Game of Thrones, Mr. Robot, Narcos, and Outlander.
Why even have categories in the first place? “The best picture nomination really speaks to that”. Still, Ruffalo did get the nod for a nomination for his role in “Infinitely Polar Bear” as a bipolar father. He is battling it out against Idris Elba, Mark Rylance, and Michael Shannon. One for “Best Television Limited Series” and a nominee for newcomer Lady Gaga who was given the “Best Actress in a Miniseries” nomination.
SURPRISE: The inclusion of streaming series “Casual” and “Mozart In the Jungle” Streaming is the new cable.
Streaming pioneer Netflix led the overall television nominations with eight nods, including two each for drug cartel drama “Narcos” and “Orange is the New Black”, a comedy set in a women’s prison. Until now, it was getting tons of attention at smaller award shows.

Premium rival Showtime saw last year’s nine nominations shrink to three.
