Stanford RB McCaffrey Being White Hurts Heisman Chances — ESPN’s Wilbon
Alabama running back Derrick Henry, Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson and Stanford running back Christian McCaffrey are the finalists for the Heisman Trophy. His 207 rushing yards marked his third 200-yard rushing game. Henry and the “Tide will face Big 10 champion and No. 3 Michigan State (12-1) on New Years” Eve in the national semifinals in Arlington, Texas.
The number of finalists is based on the voting. And that means the victor of the Hesiman trophy is CHRISTIAN MCCAFFREY!
A small field, yes, but it’s hard to argue the voters made a mistake with their top three.
Before the Heisman Trophy Trust announced the finalists for Saturday’s coronation of the nation’s best college football player for an 81st year, I was anticipating a half-dozen players earning an invitation to New York City. That is almost 2,000 yards! He had 38 runs for 210 yards and three touchdowns. He’s thrown for 3,223 yards and 27 touchdowns. Plunkett was the first player selected in the 1971 NFL Draft.
Everything changed in the game at Alabama. Being undefeated and No. 1 ranked has everything to do with this. When Alabama faced strife at home to Tennessee on October 24, trailing 14-13 inside five minutes, Henry carried five times after midfield, including the final 14 yards.
Cut from the dual-threat quarterback cloth of Cam Newton, Robert Griffin III, Johnny Manziel, Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota – the last five Heisman winners – Watson is out to keep the QB streak alive.
In what’s sure to be a controversial decision regardless of who ultimately wins it, the finalists for the most famous hardware in all of college sports were revealed Sunday evening on ESPN. “Wow”, said a post from quarterback Justin McMillan.
“Don’t trip brother… next year is our year”, safety Jamal Adams wrote. The true sophomore running back from Castle Rock, CO, also caught 41 passes for 540 yards, leading the Cardinal to an 11-2 record.
You could argue that McCaffrey’s “Heisman moment” came this past weekend in the Pac-12 title game when he eclipsed Sanders’ record in gashing USC for 461 yards and three touchdowns. “That’s usually the victor”.
“My main focus is on finishing and helping this team win”, Henry said after the SEC championship game. “It’s a function on wins”. Coach Les Miles says the cancelling of the McNeese game hurt Fournette’s chances.
LSU’s season opener against McNeese State was canceled because of lightning. Three plays later, he finished off the drive with his fourth TD of the game.
I can tell you I didn’t vote for Rolando McClain. “I’m just so blessed to be there and have this opportunity”. The fact that Stanford played seven night games probably won’t help him, Shaw said. “It would certainly have been more noteworthy and put himself in position to have an invitation”.
East Carolina’s Justin Hardy won the award a year ago.
