Teaser Trailer for a New Godzilla Film Arrives
American Godzilla is alive and well, roaring back to an extended series following the box-office domination of Edwards’ last film, with a sequel pitting the giant reptilian monster against fellow kaiju Mothra and King Ghidorah expected in 2018, and another uniting Godzilla with King Kong in 2020. Has TOHO now seen fit to update Godzilla by borrowing from Cloverfield?
The Japanese company has just put out the first teaser trailer for Godzilla: Resurgence, which is exactly what it sounds like: a resurgence of the dormant franchise. Screaming! Destruction! A familiar roar echoes through the air. The film comes almost a decade after the release of Godzilla: Final Wars.
Toho also released the first poster for the upcoming thriller. The beast has appeared in 31 films in all.
Co-directed by Hideaki Anno (“Neon Genesis Evangelion”) and Shinji Higuchi (“Attack on Titan”), “Godzilla: Resurgence” is expected to feature the tallest Godzilla yet, towering over the 108-meter creature depicted in Gareth Edwards’ 2014 US film. “This is very good timing after the success of the American version this year: if not now, then when?” It had previously announced that CG technology will be applied on the film to create the “most terrifying” Godzilla ever.
We now get our first look at Godzilla himself, courtesy of the teaser poster below, which definitely seems to be pushing a scarier image of the creature than we have seen in the past.
“Shin Godzilla” will bow in Japanese theaters on July 29, 2016, Toho revealed on Thursday.
