Jeremy Pruitt Hired As Alabama’s Defensive Coordinator
Jeremy Pruitt is reportedly headed back to Tuscaloosa to be Alabama’s new DC.
Jeremy Pruitt’s time at Georgia is over. Defensive line coach Greg Mattison will serve as Michigan’s defensive coordinator during the bowl game.
After Georgia’s 13-7 win over Georgia Tech, Pruitt said he hoped to remain with the Bulldogs.
Alabama’s defense was No. 2 in the country in total defense (258 yards per game) while Georgia’s was eighth.
Pruitt told Georgia’s defensive players he was leaving during a meeting Thursday.
Pruitt will take over the job that will be left vacant after Kirby Smart makes his permanent move to be the head coach for the Georgia Bulldogs.
Attention will now turn to who Smart replaces Pruitt. Smart took the head coaching job at his alma mater Georgia earlier in the week. “Right now we’re anxious about getting on the road, getting recruiting, and trying to assemble staff and talking to as many people as we can”.
He worked at Alabama under coach Nick Saban and Smart from 2007-2012.
Georgia’s soon-to-be former defensive coordinator has agreed to fill the same role for Alabama, a source confirmed to OnlineAthens Friday afternoon.
Pruitt – who made $1.3 million at Georgia last season – played college football at Alabama and served as the team’s defensive backs coach before taking the Florida State defensive coordinator job in 2013.
