VW brand sales slip 2.4 percent in November
“In contrast, deliveries by the brand in China rose”.
Deliveries declined 15% in the U.S.in November and 42% in South America.
VW was plunged into its deepest-er scandal in September, when it was forced to admit it had installed emission-cheating software into 11 million diesel engine vehicles worldwide.
The group as a whole, meanwhile, saw deliveries drop 1.7 per cent to 9.1 million vehicles in the first 11 months of the year, including a 2.2 per cent decline in November alone, leaving unclear whether it can reach the 10 million-car milestone it passed last year.
Sales of VW-brand cars alone were down 2.4 percent at 496,100 last month, it said.
“We are shouldering what is a very considerable challenge for the group”, said Chief Executive Matthias Mü ller.
The latest evidence of the commercial strain Volkswagen is under comes after the auto maker on Thursday blamed its emissions crisis on a “chain of mistakes” that began with the company’s diesel push into the U.S.in 2005.
With global demand for the brand down by 4.5 percent in the 11 months to November, annual VW sales now look likely to fall short of last year’s level of 6.12 million.
The three brands Audi, Porsche and Volkswagen are affected, and Audi estimates that the related expense will be around 50 million dollars.
At the time, the EPA said the defeat device detects when vehicles are undergoing a federal emissions test procedure so it can switch to a low NOx temperature conditioning mode to meet emission standards. The company temporarily halted sales of several models in some countries after authorities had discovered the software. Sales growth was particularly strong in Spain, Italy, Germany, Mexico and Brazil, Audi said.
Here, deliveries by the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand decreased by about a quarter in November, especially as a result of the sales stop for diesel models. In the entire Asia-Pacific region, the brand delivered 2.58 million units from January to November.
