West Ham injuries and return dates: Dimitri Payet, Sakho, Reid and more
This week alone Winston Reid and Victor Moses have been ruled out, joining key players such as Dimitri Payet, Diafra Sakho and Manuel Lanzini in the treatment room.
Nigerian winger Moses, on loan from Chelsea, will be out for between four and six weeks after damaging his hamstring in last weekend’s goalless draw at Manchester United. “Of course it’s a big blow for us because they are six very important players, but we are going to move on and we have to get over this period without them”.
“I’m sure we will show we can play without these players”. We can’t continue to risk any more on these kind of pitches.
“I heard a lot about the pitches here and they are not ideal”, he said.
“With Reid’s injury for example, the pitches are slippery on the top but rock hard underneath and it is a bad combination”.
The east Londoners’ great start to the campaign has threatened to derail in recent weeks, but they turned in an impressive display to earn a 0-0 draw away at Manchester United on Saturday.
The plan is for West Ham to train at least a couple of days a week at the Rush Green Road
facility, while also doing some sessions at Chadwell Heath, which has been the first-team training ground for over 50 years.
“It’s not just going to be the Stoke game, it will be longer”.
Initially the Hammers said he was expected to be sidelined for up to six weeks but speaking at his weekly press conference on Thursday Bilic explained that he “hopes” Lanzini could be back for the Swansea trip in just nine days. “It was like literally training on a road for two hours every day”.
West Ham were due to move from their traditional base at Chadwell Heath to a new training ground at Rush Green, Romford at the end of this season but will instead make the switch next week.
CalcioMercato are reporting that the Premier League side have joined a host of clubs interested in bringing Boca Juniors man Jonathan Calleri to English football.
